The Negative Reader

Drinking Tea and Trashing Books

The Mortal Instruments has a strange legacy. Written by the famous (or infamous) Cassandra Clare, a lot of people already had feelings about her before her series even hit the shelves, and coming from a legacy of plagiarism and tasteless behavior, Clare did her best to distance herself from the Harry Potter series by…essentially copying the Harry Potter series.

The plot of The Mortal Instruments is pretty simple: a normal girl runs into strangers at a club and is sucked into a the supernatural world that’s existed all around her the whole time. It’s a standard Urban Fantasy only for young adults.

Yet somehow, it manages to be awful.

I’m going to be looking in depth at everything wrong with this series.
