The House of Night is a bizarre little series that is attempting to be a feminist version of Harry Potter with vampires, but somehow manages to do everything wrong. From a heroine who is probably one of the biggest, most obvious Sues to grace print (including Bella Swan), to obvious and annoying ‘plot twists’ to a brand of feminism that honestly is just sexism for women, somehow, this series manages to cross the line from stupid into positively awful.
And yet it, and the mother/daughter team of writers maintain a shocking degree of popularity to the point that they actually have a sequel series.
I’m here to examine just what is wrong with this series and just why it has managed to be as well known as it is.
